Sanding bamboo?
« on: February 27, 2012, 08:39:00 PM »
I have a bamboo ipe glued up with some reflex. I am a little worried about sanding the bamboo. I tapered it from .160 at the handle to .090 at the tips. I was going for .125 at the handle and .062 at the tips but it was getting fairly narrow. I don't understand how you could get .125 with a 1 1/2" piece of ipe or osage without it being trapped, due to losing width as you reduce it. The ipe is 1 1/4" at the fades to 1/2" at the tips. Should I leave it and clean up, sand the nodes, if so, how much or sand all the rind off. Does anyone have a picture of a bow with the rind sanded all off. Thanks, Don

Thanks, I sanded it last night. I hope I didn't go to much at the nodes but we will find out in the next couple of days. That's a nice looking bow. I hope mine comes out half that good. Don
