« on: March 29, 2012, 07:49:00 PM »
Hi need a little help, a friend just bought a 1960 something bear kodiak special he needs a string for it and my question is the bow is 66" but marked 63" not 66amo or 63amo so would it be safe to say the the 63" marked on the bow is for the length of the string required. thanks

Generally you would get a string 4 inches shorter than the length marked on the bow for recurves.

Just curious.  How did you measure the 66" bow length?

Bear never marked string lengths on bows. You should need a 59" string. If you are measuring tip to tip across the curves, you are measuring too long.It should be nock to nock.It seems I remember them making some 63" Kodiak Specials but it's been awhile.

Its a friends bow that he just bought and the seller told him it was 66". I have not seen the bow but he said that it did not come with a string and he is new to archery and has no idea what size or what kind of string to buy. so i told him a B50 string at about 62-63"s for a 66" bow. so when he told me it was marked 63" I did tell him to measure the bow from nock to nock and see what he gets. haven't head from Yet but if it measures 63" then problem solved. Thanks guys
