lb, to centershot or nt to centershot
« on: April 06, 2012, 09:13:00 AM »
Well I'm consider site windows on my current bow and up and comings bows.

I'm not worried about competitions so much.  I shoot 3'ds for fun and atleast up here we get lumped into a barebow class (compounds unsited and all trad/selfbow gear in one class).

I typically build the sitewindow out a little with a pressure point and on some bows it puts things out quite a ways.   Others it seems to really narrow my window of arrows that fly good.

So I keep asking myself "why not" lol.   I plan on ordering a couple bows, I know one comes this way, the other I couldnt do it too (a hill style bow).  I'm not sure if the bowyer would do this on my current bow or not (I have 3).

Thoughts, concerns idears...I'm all ears!   I plan on building a few in the near future (buddy builds also and has made the offer when I can find the time).

I like my bows cut to center, not 1/8 to 3/16 before like many are cut.. As you said, a center cut bow gives more latitude on arrow selection.

On the bows I have ordered I request them cut to center, if they're not I don't really want them.

Most of mine are cut to the center of the riser, then add a little strike plate of Velcro or leather.  I haven't tried one cut past center far enough to be a true center shot.  Makes sense if integrity isn't lost I s'pose.

I'm a recurve shooter 99.9% of the time, I built myself a 64" R/D longbow a couple of years ago..I made it 1/8" past center. I built one for Helen last year just for target shooting and made the riser extra strong with 26 layers of 030 core tuff, I cut that one 3/16" past center..with her 25" draw length she has to use 700-800 spine arrows, the past center cut makes it eaiser to find arrows in her spine.

Thanks, its the first time I worked with zebrawood. all that glass really made the riser strong with nice mass weight. Helen is shooting it now at 70 meters in 15 mph winds...i am shooting a 10 yard target, my 5 inch feathers are really catching the wind...i had  a small piece of that zebra left over, I am building a recurve with  it now..broke  my spindle sander, waiting on parts

you can make a spindle sander out of your drillpress.

I made some pots out of zebrawood, good looking stuff!  Look forward to more pics.
