Couple of questions about arrows
« on: February 24, 2008, 02:57:00 PM »
I am going to buy some Carbon Express Heritage arrows to shot out of my recurve. I am planning on bare shaft tuning them, but what spine arrow should I start with. I am shooting a 63#@29.5" recurve, but only drawing to 28". I am planning on shooting 100 grain tips. Were should I start?

Also, when I buy feathers for the arrows, if I have a left helical, are those feathers from a left wing or a right wing?

What brand recurve?
Is it cut to center or beyond?
Dacron or fastflight?

Why 100 grain tips? Are you trying for a lighter arrow or just happen to have 100 grain tips and broadheads?

You will probably need at least a 480 grn arrow.250's are 11 gpi and 350's are 12 gpi.

I am shooting a Brackenbury Drifter. No reason for the 100 grain, I guess I just figured I could use the broadheads I already use. I could switch to a 125 if it would make a difference. I am shooting a dacron string

I would guess you are drawing about 60 lbs.I think you could shoot the 250's with light tips but may need weight tubes to get the weight up to 8 gpp of bow weight. I would go with a 350.Leave it long to start and try the light tips.If stiff add weight or weak cut 1/4 at a time from the nock end.

You can get inserts threaded to add brass weights if you want to shoot 100 grn heads.

I think Sipsey River will sell a test kit so you won't have to buy a dozen to try.
