Fiberglass accent strip users??
« on: May 02, 2012, 09:50:00 PM »
I was looking and lusting on Kenny's site and saw that he had a good deal on some of these and that got me to wondering. I build me a new bow to hunt with each season and have been using 2 veneers, 1 parallel core, 1 taper, with glass on the back & belly. If I used a fiberglass accent strip in the middle would it add more draw weight than a normal wood core at the same thickness? Would I then leave out the parallel core? Anything else that I need to know or consider?
Thaks

You could replace one of your parallels- as far as increasing the draw weight ??? The glass core will however be heavier than a wood core and in my mind that will slow the limbs down= performance decrease.

Trux is correct . It would add serious mass to the limb and be a poor performer.

If you are wanting to save some money you could choose something like zebra, walnut or some other light stiff wood and replace the veneer with it. You could make it a parallel or a taper either one and save 40 bucks.

Those woods will add a couple fps as well and look good without the need for a veneer. You would loose a couple lbs because a 4 lam core is not as stiff as a 6 lam core all else being the same.

Thanks guys; I guess I was thinking that maybe it increased performance since it sure seems to help having it on the outside. I already have all my lams made up and have the glue on hand. Both of my cores are Black Walnut since I already had plenty of it. All I am needing now is the glass but my banker (bank account) has everything on hold. Maybe I could trade KennyM a good possum dog fur some glass LOL.
Thanks for getting me straight on this guys.
