Limb tip glue
« on: May 04, 2012, 12:44:00 PM »
I had a phenolic limb tip pop off my Groves spitfireand was wondering what type of glue I could use put it back on. If possible, I would like to use something that I could pick up locally like at a Lowes store since I will be going to town this weekend.

Agree with Trux on the Gorilla Impact CA with the light blue top. Havent had a set of tips fail yet and I have at least a thousand shots on one of my home made bows.

I dont think freezing helped a thing niller. I use extra thick CA Glue I get at pet stores. I guess its for aquarium repairs, it dries clear.

I like epoxy. Clean the surfaces well with sandpaper and wipe the dust off before gluing.
get a two part in the double syringe and it will work well for you.

I've used two part epoxy like Chuck says, Loctite CA like Vanillabear suggests, and Smooth On. They all worked well. The Super Glue may be the easiest/fastest/cheapest.
imho...

I have used both. I think two part epoxy is best.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm on my way to Lowes now, and should be back shooting this afternoon.

I have built a ton of bows using Gorilla Super with rubber and never lost a tip. I have lost several tips prior to that using Loctite Blue pro . It does not hold up to shock like the Gorilla does. I found that out trying to knock tips off of limbs When I wanted to pike a bow for some reason. The Blue came right off . The Gorilla has to be ground off.

Thats my take. God bless you all, Steve
