String material for a SOLID glass bow.....
« on: May 09, 2012, 03:35:00 PM »
I'm in the process of building a little solid glass recurve. Well, I say building, I mean modifying/fabricating as per instructions from a very nice lady at the TN Classic last weekend.

It'll end up at 44" & I'm hoping for between 45-55# @ 20"

The original bow is an Indian Archery recurve, the one with the Grumley-esque brush-nocks, that I know was built before HMPE strings were even thought of, but I was wondering if I could use a FF material or whether I should stick with B50.

The reason I ask is that it has a little limb twist ('cos I'm an idiot) & a fat string may not sit very well in the pronounced string-grooves.

Go with a skinny string, you wont hurt a thing. I would pad the loops to protect the string maybe.

Believe it or not Ken, she's nearly finished!

Again, a million thanks for the donor bow! I'll get you back at Comptons  :D
