New belly mount, chrono numbers
« on: May 09, 2012, 09:19:00 PM »
Gonna weigh it at my local bow shop but my meat scale says 58# at 28". Specs otherwise are 62" long, 1.5" at fades. Riser and wedge are massaranduba with black glass, curly maple,& tan phenolic accents from kennym and a thin black phenolic i beam from kennym as well... The lams were ground by Bobby and are .002 taper in the limb. It seems like its pretty quick. Hopefully have some chrono data by the weekend with 9 & 10gpp arrows.

Here is the drawn profile,

compare to Trux's Swap bow from another site's swap you can see the effect of the power lam on the bend in the limb on the new bow compared to Trux's:

Looks like the R$D is complete.  Great looking profile, the power lam is working well.  How is the massarundaba to work with?  I have saw it around and wondered about it.  Is it similar to Ipe?

Looks really good ,Dave!!

I really like your belly mount riser design, some other designs, not so much.

Bet she will be quick and you made a vast improvement with the p-lam!
Stay sharp, Kenny.

Thanks guys. I really enjoyed building this one after learning some lessons on Truxs bow... Jess the massaranduba is akin to granite more than wood. It cuts great on a tablesaw but burns badly during sanding and I worked my butt off on file marks. But it has a very pretty grain if you look close and is super strong and heavy.  If you take a board and try to bend a long piece it is quite springy though and I have heard of folks making lam board bows out of it.

Well guys I had a chance to go by my local archery shop today at lunch and shoot a few different arrows through the chrono and recheck my poundage on his digital scale. Here goes:

Previous weight on spring scale 58#
Weight as measured today digital scale 60#

All these numbers were done with a 16 strand Laser brand string, wool puffs in the pics, 28" draw with finger release. average 10 shots per arrow throwing out the high and low.

I choose to test this way instead of a release aid, a 10-12 strand string, and no silencers bc this is the way I hunt.  The bow will be set up like this for hunting season.

Here goes:

520gr (8.6gpp) = 178 fps
550gr (9.2gpp) = 174 fps
580gr (9.7gpp) = 173 fps
690gr (11.5gpp)= 160 fps

I did not have time on lunch hour to get a complete force draw curve, but I did get weights at 26,27,28,29,30"

26" = 55.5
27" = 58
28" = 60
29" = 63
30" = 65

I was really pleased with those draw numbers and justified my belief in no stacking when I shoot it.  Slightly disappointed in the arrow speed, as I was hoping to break 180 fps with 9.5 gpp but I'll take 12-13fps decrease jumping more than 100gr in arrow weight with a better point on for me hunting any day.

I will enjoy shooting it this season for sure. Enjoy!

Dave
