Cracks in the finish, older bow
« on: May 18, 2012, 10:29:00 PM »
I just picked up a older Martin Hunter a few days ago and it has about a 5" section on the riser where the finish is cracking and flaking off.  I don't care about the looks but am more concerned about sealing the wood from moisture.

Should I even worry about it?  Just try to refinish the small section? Go all out and refinish the whole bow, worth it?  Is there anything else I could do for a remedy?

Thanks,
Rick

Rick,

You could try some tru oil on that area, it tends to be compatable with lots of other finishes.  Refinishing the whole bow would be something to consider as other areas may start to flake off also.  It's a fun project, I'd go that route.
