Cuban Missile thanks for the PVC build along
« on: July 04, 2012, 11:37:00 AM »
I thought this was one of the coolest kids bows I'd seen  and maybe something even I could build. Got one done and into the hands of the kid next door to "field test"- there is a bit of a learning curve to get one to work but they are a fun build and also within my budget-lol.

Nice, I did one a while back for my wife, but it folded over when I over drew it. It was pretty cool for a while though. I have another pipe in the corner and should really try another one just for fun. It was a takedown and was 30# @ 28"

Here she is at full draw, a few minutes later I was drawing it and it folded over, which is too bad, because it did fling those arras pretty good for her. I'll have to make her a self bow instead.

David, That is a good looking bow. Anyone who gets a bow in the hands of a kid is alright by me.

Jomohr84, I was watching one of the youtube videos from the Backyard Bowyer, and he demonstrated that if your bow folds over, you can still fix it.  Just heat it back up where the fold happened, and it'll pop back to normal.  Check out this video:

Here's my PVC bow (with wooden siyahs).  This is my first and only one, made a couple of weeks ago.

I made several
3 flattened youth bows
3 with wood siyahs
1 5' using 1" pipe

Moved on to wood. Am now working on my third board bow. Will be looking to get a stave soon!

Just like Morris put it as long as we get our kids shooting bows and doing something constructive!  I'll have to get around to finishing that thread.  We had our son and I have been trying to sneek some sleep in when ever and where ever I can! haha

Dang Dave recurves, longbows, and now PVC bows.  Next thing I know you will be making wooden bows and strings from yucca fibers.  Seriouly that is very neat and good job on giving it to the kid next door.
