Questions --Black Bear Riser w/Samick Sage take-down limbs project.

I was able to pick up a Bear – Black Bear  50# - 65# compound pretty cheap. I am going to attempt to fit it with a pair of Samick Sage 50# limbs (spec-62” 50# @ 28”). The limb hole pattern riser hole pattern match up a perfect length wise (snug) side to side there is a slight cap in the limb pocket. One other issue I might have is. The limb specs. The limb design shows as stated in the beginning of this message. However, with the limbs install and tightened down. The bow length is 60” tip to tip& 59” loop notch to loop notch. My draw is 30.1/2" The Samick guy told me the limbs would be ok for a 31” draw increasing the spec weight at 50# - 28” at about 3#’s per inch of draw. So here are my questions.
First of all… Is this project doable? If so…. What do I need to do to my limb pockets with the side to side clearance to assure straight alignment & secure fit. Is there an issue with the limb ratings and my extra draw. What would my brace height need to be and what length string will I need to accomplish this project.

Vanillabear, Thanks for the feedback. I was thinking about using the alignment piece. That was what i was wondering since it will require drilling the alignment pin holes into the limb base. I will not have to slot my limbs. So the only mod will be the shallow pin holes.

I haven’t had time to go back to my compound conversion project in a few days. I did get a string for it today. I was shooting for a 55 ½ “  which would put me 3 ½ “ shorter than my bow length of 59”. The local bow tech was backed up and not able to make me a string for several days. So I purchased a 56” Dacron string. If it needs to be a little shorter, hopefully I can twist it enough to get a decent set up. As far as the pins on limb alignment piece. I am going to grind them off and use double sided tape to hold them instead of drilling holes in my limbs. I will have  some pic’s later.

Something kept telling me this looks longer than 59". I thought I should check it again before I went to get a string for it. The bow turned out to be 62" Not 59". I guess my tape slipped while I was measuring it the first time. So the limbs are on, bow is strung, brace height 7 ¾”  59# @ 31”.  Shot it about 30 times. Brace height was down to 7”. Twisted up the string back to 7 ¾”   brace height. Left it strung up. Gonna shoot it again today when I get home from work. I am very impressed with the speed.

No significant stacking. The tech at the bow shop hung it on a scale and pulled it down without any reference in length. Said it was 48# at 28”.  He said he has done it enough he know it was close. So I drew a shaft and marked it, knocked it on the bow, pulled down to the mark. 30 3/4”.  It was 58# the first test and 57# the second test.  No hand shock.

Here are my next 2 projects.

Another Black Bear compound riser (recurve) probably another set of Samick 50# limbs. and a White Tail II compound riser (long bow.) I am going to attempt to make the Whitetail into a long bow with red oak board limbs.
