to heat or not to heat smooth on riser overlays?

Im going to try glass on my current build for riser overlays and the base of the tip overlays.I was thinking of using a heat lamp to "cure" the smooth on.Is this necessary?Or will it cure hard enough on its own?Im conserned about getting the existing glue joints to hot.Any tips would be appriciated.Thanks Scott

You can do it without heat but it takes about 24 hours.  Besides the time it works the same.

too much heat and you can get a twist in the tips..a couple of years ago there was a member of this site that posted some pics of his bow  twist incident from too much heat. Like tenbrook said you dont need to heat "smooth on" to cure it. I have used a 75 watt light bulb 10-12 inches from tip just to warm the area arround the overlay to 90 to 95 degrees for a few hours and it worked fine. I put a thermometer at tip to monitor temerature

I cure smooth on at 70 degrees for 24 hours.

I use an old work light, with a 100 watt bulb 10 inches away.... havent had issues... done in 4 hrs to my satisfaction

you can cure at room temp 24hrs.you can mix smooth on epoxy at 2 to 1 mix on can for high heat protection. I did have a friend that put heating pad on low and laid it on top.Worked well.
