First Successful Bow
« on: October 02, 2012, 07:20:00 PM »
Hello all. This is my first successful bow. This is a Red Oak backed Bamboo American flat bow. The bamboo started as a 3" x 8' bamboo plank from Franks. It was heat treated and glued to a 2"x6' red oak board from Lowes. After tillering the red oak is very thin, less than 1/4 inch. The draw weight is very close to 40lbs at 31" draw.
So far it has survived over 100 shots with no signs of wear and very little string follow.
I can't wait to start on the next bow.
Arrows in the picture were shot from 15 yards.

Nice bow and good shootin'! I really like a simple look with clean lines.
It's almost time for my science classes to start on our two red oak bows. Haven't been able to find boards with decent grain so we may have to back the bows this year.

you will start next one, and you will wonder if you can build your own arrows, will find yourself telling if i make the bow with this wood and this etc...

That`s a very nice bow: clean lines, beautiful color. I too have started on this bowbuilding thing recently, and I can confirm what the guys are saying: it is addictive!!!

Congratulations!
