Please help!!.. I dropped my bow...
« on: October 29, 2012, 01:26:00 PM »
Any help will be greatly appreciated....

I am at the finishing stages of building my first glass bow, and dropped it on the concrete. Now I have 2 halfmoon white spots in the clear glass, about halfway up the limb on the belly and the back. The edge of the limb hit the concrete. The blemishes are about 1/8 inch wide and 3/8 long. What can I do to fix this, or is it destined for the bin? I haven't flexed the limb since. Bow will be about 50#. I must say, I almost cried, many hrs have gone into this bow already, I would hate to have to chuck it.

Thanks in advance, I posted this on the Powwow to.

Pete

Pictures would help. I've seen some amazing things done with superglue.

Ouch!! Looks like you can wick some super glue in from the edge that should correct it.

Ewww, yeah, that sucks.

I'd round the edges over some, which should remove some of it, then drop some thin viscocity cyanocrylite in there and see if that doesn't make it disappear.

It may help to look at that edge with a high-power magnifying glass. It looks as though it may have begun to delaminate a bit due to the knock. If that is the case, you really need to know about it, and you need to do something to fix it before using the bow. A question for all Smooth-On users (I`m not one): if the Smooth-On thins with heat, could one drop a blob of it on that edge, and then warm it up to make it flow into the damaged area? Just an idea, and maybe a stupid one at that, but it can`t hurt to ask...

If smooth on can be thinned to a watery consitancy, it could be injected using a syringe.
Just an idea.

Thanks for all your replies. I will try superglue like loctite. I will post finished pics when I get the bow done. I'm just glad it seems I can save it...

God Bless
