Bloodwood for veneers?
« on: December 06, 2012, 08:00:00 PM »
Guys, I have a nice piece of bloodwood and would like to use it as a veneer. I've seen where people have said it is very stiff and can be oily. Is that true?  Would it be ok for a thin veneer? I will use maple for the lams...

I use it all the time in risers mostly 1/8" accents. Not ever used it in a limb but know its been done.

Like Michael I've used it alot as accent stripes in risers. No problems to date using it that way. However, I've always considered it too oily of a wood for limbs. Might have a glue problem when bending. JMHO...

Having worked with rosewood a bit, I found it to be crumbly and oily. I would guess there could be problems if you did not prepare the wood extremely well before glue up.

It will work, not saying it will be good but it'll work.  Get a new roll of sandpaper for the drum, it's sticky, gummy stuff to work with.
