Tomahawk shooters
« on: February 26, 2008, 11:25:00 PM »
Pros/cons on Tomahawk bows, specifically differences between Desert Fox, Woodland Hunter, and Thunderstorm. Is the Diamond series a better performer, or just fancier? I'm looking for a hunting longbow in the 64", 60# range, and the Tomahawk looks like a winner in the ads. Any input would be appreciated.

Mine will get here Friday. I got a 64" 52#@28 Diamond SS. I really like the looks of the Diamond SS. The Yew and Boo look great. The bow is a Great Shooter. Other than Differnt Looks and the carbon, not much differance. The carbon seams to help keep the limb stable.

I've shot my mate's 60", 60lb @ 28" Woodland Hunter one-piece. He really likes it, and it's his first longbow (he's only just made the change from modern equipment) and he is shooting it really well. And it does look really good.

I shoot'em, and like 'em. I have the original series with bacote riser the ss . I think the Thunderstorm is the best looking one. The SS may have a very slight performance advantage, very slight. The Diamond series  have  carbon in the limbs and phenolic in the riser. I've shot these also couldn't tell the carbon was there but the pheno,ic in the riser seemed to make it a tad more stable, the extra weight I guess? But I like 'em, quiet as a mouse no handshock.

Here is my Thunderstorm with a very unique design.  Not all are like this.  I feel it shoots as well as the Diamond SS I had.  Smooth , accurate and fast enough for me.  Possibly a bit slower than the diamond, but just as stabile as far as I am concerned.

great bow. diamond series bows have carbon lams and are faster,...a little. I had one that I loved to shoot, and I sold it only because it was a little too light for me. my 57# shot a 600 grains arrow faster than a 63# BW PL V. the only down side to this bow is the take-down system, which is a real pain!! the L bar kept bending toward the back of the bow, and had to be hammered back in place. Also, the tool needed to tighten the T/D system is obsolete, antiquated and belongs in wheel bow toolcase. If I got another, it would be a 1 piece Diamond Woodland Hunter, definitely

I thought the takedown looked a bit awkward, too. If I get one, it will be a onepiece. Thanks for the input, guys. Any other comments would be welcomed.

I've shot alot of tomahawks over the years and still own a couple.  For the most part (IMHO) all of the Diamond series bows shoot pretty equal and all of the regular series bows shoot about the same.  There is a definate difference between the regular series and the diamond the rest of the woods is just what suits your fancy.   The diamond series is a little smoother because of the carbon and the added mass of the phenolic in the handle makes it more stable in the hand.  That being said may main goto bow is a non diamond series. Shoots like a dream. dino
