Damaged recurve tip

I purchased a 40# vintage Bear Blackbear recurve for one of the grandkids. It was in perfect condition until the shipper broke one of the tips off. Is it feasible to cut in new knock points top and bottom and still use the bow. Would this increase the draw weight too much?

I have done several. It does increase the weight, depending on how much length was lost.

You can retiller and get the weight back down. You just have to be careful.

I would have the shipper get you new limbs or get your money back.

What is it with shippers?  I understand that they deal with thousands and thousands of packages and they all run together, but does every long tube have to get dropped on its end hard enough to break off a tip.  I got one in the mail the other day and it had a tip snapped off.

I hate to say it but I'm not convinced they're always damaged in shipping. I've received alot of packages, and a number of bows, and its pretty rare to have something damaged.

Anyway, a bow isn't really that fragile compared to say a glass vase, I just think either they're selling something damaged, or they're packaging is just really poor. either way, no fun. Ask the seller to make it right.

D, i think the reason these long, lightweight tubes get dropped may be because they get thrown like fat expensive spears when loading/unloading trucks, thats what I would do if I was mindless and looking for a pick me up during work haha.

If we're talking about the auction site here, I've found that some sellers really do care, well actually most care, but unfortunately some just move to fast for their own good, and dont take precautions. I bought a bunch of 100gr NAP thunderheads there once for a ridiculously cheap price, they turned out to be 125gr. Oops, turns out the seller didnt actually weigh them, or look at them, or think. Fortunately I own a stak of bows that looks like a bamboo forest so they found a home in another setup but still ... for the average weekend warrior wheelie shooter, might have been a dealbreaker.

To actually answer the question,

If the seller/shipper wont make it right, then you've got nothing to lose. How much broke off? Break right at string groove?

This is done with wood bows all the time. Some glass guys can help more, but if you've got the tools and some tillering experience zI think it should be no big.

If it was bought on here I can't see a tradganger doing that to anyone.
