Weight came in low

I'm currently working on a mild 64" d/r longbow and had a goal end weight of ~46# @ 28" (3 parallels and one .002 taper). After putting in the string grooves last night I'm at 41#   :( .  
I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it yet.

1) If I removed 1 inch from each end would this add ~ 6-8 lbs to the bow?  How do you think this would affect the shooting characteristics (stacking/hand shock etc)?

2) Anyone added glass to the back/belly to gain weight and what were your results?

3) Maybe finish it "as is"

Any thoughts and advice are appreciated.

I am new to all of this bow building but making it 62 shouldn't have that much affect on it. May be different with glass but with my BBO bows I have chopped them down quite a bit and been fine. Specially with such a standard draw length.

Someone who has glass experience will chime in... Good luck and post pictures

Lighter bows will not gain as much by piking as heavier bows. Dont think you will gain that much if you taper the limbs to the same tip width you have now. No garantee though. Or you could just send it to me and I will finish it---  :D

Nothing wrong with 41 #s. I'd just use this as an excuse to make another one:)

Just start your ledger and put this bow in for future reference and then enjoy shooting it.

I have added another strip of glass to one that came in way light.  It was a pain but worked well, I don't think I would go to the trouble if only five pounds light.  Another strip of glass will probably raise the weight well above the original goal of 46#.  Then you will have to try and reduce weight without screwing up the tiller.

I'm with Roy on this. 41# will be a lot of fun to shoot ... and will definitely still kill. Call it a win and make another!

If it just absolutely bothers you that it is light you could cut in a second set of string grooves for a test run. Then either leave them or cut the first off.

Like the guys said a 41 pound bow is fun and ya never know when you'll need a,lighter bow to work on form etc.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts, much appreciated.  Here's an update in case others have this happen with this style of bow. We (this one will be for my dad) decided to take an inch off of each end, it added 6#'s.  I'll post pictures when it's all finished up.
