New Recurve
« on: February 19, 2013, 09:11:00 PM »
Hey everyone, Just thought I'd post my newest creation. I think I'm going to name it "Ocho Dinero" because I don't think it cost more than $8-10.
$6 for the board, and $2-3 dollars for the string. Actually the string was a freeby/handmedown, but it'll get a new one soon.

Anyway, the bow is good old red oak, 61" ttt 1.5" wide at the fades to 10" from the tips, tapering to ~3/8" wide. Top limb is 1" longer than the bottom.
Bow draws about 40# @ 26". Hasn't been heat treated yet, but I'm hoping to gain a few lbs of draw weight.
After resting the bow holds about 3" of reflex. Definitely not super fast, but no slouch either, I think once I get it heat treated and up to 45# or so it'll be a reasonable deer hunting bow.

Hope you guys like it.

Almost forgot, hickory underlays, and the tips were bent with dry heat ... I think.

Thanks buddy, it's definitely not a showpiece like some guys are making but it's one of my better shooters, hopefully it'll trick a gobbler this spring.

very nice ben. never thought of trying to dry heat bend oak before. might have to try it on my next board bow, if i ever get to one again.

Looking GOOD!
