Veneer backing?
« on: February 28, 2013, 08:28:00 PM »
is it possible to use veneer as a backing? I know veneer is really thin, but would it be possible after building up multiple layers of straight grained material, like laminations. i apologize if this is a repeat subject, in the meantime i have a 4ply test strip drying, i was hoping to hurry into the larger project hehe

I've never done it but I read years ago about a guy that used hickory vaneers as bow backings. I think he just ironed it on if I remember correctly.

I used a piece of Pignut Hickory I had to thin down to .040 to get the saw marks out.  It worked fine but I'm not sure if any other type of Hickory or Pecan would work as well.
