Help with tillering.
« on: March 06, 2013, 10:49:00 PM »
Mulberry - want it to bend lightly in the handle. Could use some expert advise.

About 63" NTN  1 1/4" wide middle third - tapering to 5/8 and each end.  Lower limb has 4 knots - upper 1 knot.  Looking for 45 - 50# at 27 1/2".  Arrows point to knots.

What do you think so far and where do I go next?  I am thinking nice even arch with last 6" of tips stiff?  Thanks for the help!!

I think you need to weaken up the inner third of both limbs. And the left limb looks a tad stiff out on the outer 1/3. Do you have a tillering gizmo?

For bendy handle bows I leave the inner 1/3 of the bow until last. That is where most of the stress is and if you get that area bending too much too soon it will take set. I like to get the mid limbs bending nicely with plenty of weight left over and work the limbs back into the handle area at the very last.

Thanks for the replies Roy and Pat.  Pat - I have read some of your previous posts on this type of bow and was being cautious with the middle part of the bow.

Roy I do have a gizmo and using it.  But advice from an expert eye helps!  Thanks again.
