Need some help tillering my first bow
« on: March 14, 2013, 07:50:00 PM »
Hey guys,  Just going through the process of tillering my first red oak board bow.  I have it in a low brace at this point, and I pulled it to 12 inches to take some pics.

I'm having a hard time finding hinges/stiff spots as this is my first time doing it.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

build yourself one of these. it helps alot with flat bows.

It looks very good for your first bow. Maybe a tad flat just outside of the flares. I would brace it to 6 inches and keep on tillering.

Good looking tiller to me. put it on a low brace(2" or so), long strings make things look different. I'm no expert though.

Looks good. How long is it and what is your draw?

It's 68" long and it's braced at about 2" and drawn to 12"

Once the limb tips are bending to 8 inches, brace it up to a 6 inch brace and finish tillering. A shorter string will work the outer third of the limbs more than a long string.
