« on: May 10, 2013, 07:50:00 AM »
so i was sitting around with the wife last night havin a couple beers, and i says to her half joking... well mostly joking.... hey you should buy me this bandsaw (which really means "you should use some of the money from my paycheck on this bandsaw instead of buying a hundred picture frames and candles at target) and she says "I don't care what you do, you should be able to get what you want". about 11 seconds later i clicked confirm payment lol! then she goes... why, how much is that thing?  TOO LATE bwaaaahaahaahahaha!

what is the difference between a resaw fence... and the fence that comes on the saw?

Yup that's a bandsaw for sure. You know what though, the thing with tools is you can alwasy find a use for them.

If you never made another bow in your life, you'd still get a ton of use out of something like that.

Regarding showing her who's boss: I have to justify buying a burger for lunch, I wouldn't dare pull a move like that ... but more power to you for going for it.

Dana made it pretty clear that I was not to make any significant purchases until she was carrying around an engagement ring on her finger ... just when I was about to start wasting money on my car ...

The resaw fence is usually much higher than the normal fence. Most that I have seen attach to the normal fence, to add height against which to hold the piece being cut. Many people make a vertical extension to screw into the standard fence, and use that as a resaw fence.

Congrats on you new toy. You will soon wonder how you lived without it! If you're new to bandsaws, do yourself a favour and read up on its use, or watch some instructional videos. Bandsaws are safer than table saws, and much more verstile, but getting the best out of them is not easy, and depends greatly on tuning, and choice of blades for the job.

i been doing some reading.
wonder why anyone would spend anothe 100 bucks on a resaw fence when all you have to do is clamp or screw a board to the fence?

'Resaw fence' usually means more than additional height added to the original size fence. Fences used for resawing can be either curved, 'pointed', or with angle adjustment to account for the drift of the saw.

I use a shop vac on my band saw. It seems to work OK. The band saw doesn't send dust flying like a table saw does so the shop vac seems to do the trick.  Does it  come with an adjustable fence? Band saws don't naturally cut on a right angle to the table. You have to adjust your fence to the angle the band saw "wants" to cut at. I found it easiest to used a single point fence as you can adjust the feed angle as you cut. I cut things fat and use my planer to flatten the surface. My saw skills are pretty lacking.

You will love it.  I have the same saw, and it is awesome.

got my saw today, all set up and halfway tuned. tried it out on some scrap 2x4 pieces. awesome. cuts curves nice and easy, cuts straight, just for S&Gs, I cut a 1/8" strip out of a 2' 2x4 just to see how straight it would cut.... perfect.  sorry im just a little excited about it. I always have the wrong tool for the job... or cheap junk.... this thing is great! i feel like i can make anything lol! but......like any good purchase, its going to lead to another good purchase haha!  I'm gonna need a mobile base.... and... a dust collector.  this is never gonna end is it guys?
