elliptical or circular
« on: June 01, 2013, 07:11:00 PM »
Another question before I get started on my first self bow. What limb design seems to be the smoothest, elliptical or circular? I aint overly concerned with most efficiant or speed. I just want a really smooth drawing bow without stack or hand shock. All thoughts on the subject are greatly appreciated.

Stack has to do with string angle at full draw and generally hand shock is a matter of too much tip weight. I've built very smooth circular and eliptical tillered bows.
For your first bow start with a plain jane overbuilt flatbow or bendy handle bow. Learn proper tiller first. Then you can build any style bow you desire.
Make the most of all that comes and the least of all that goes!

What determines circular or elliptical depends on bow layout. If the limbs are pyramidal or nearly so then tiller is circular if the limbs are parallel to just past mid limb narrowing to nocks then tiller is elliptical. Check my site. Jawge
