tiller help
« on: June 12, 2013, 01:43:00 PM »
This is a re-tiller of a Bamboo-hickory bow.  It was about 56# at 28" (72" long).  It had handshock, I think because the tips were too thick.I also wanted a different finish and a better feeling handle.
It is now about 54# at 28".  This is a pict at 26".  As you can see, the lower limb (right side) is not as even a curve, and is stronger, meaning not bending as much.  I can't tell if there is a hinge in the top limb (left side), and I am not sure how to even out the lower limb to match the top. I'd prefer to keep the draw weight around where it is at, so I'd likewise prefer to finish tiller in the most "efficient" way possible.

How about another pic without the elipse overlay.

Whats the front profile of the bow? pyrimidal? or it is traight for part of the limb.

Pyrimidal bow should have a circular tiller whereas a bow with straight profile out to midlimb or so shoudl be more eliptical.

This looks like a very circular tiller, therefoire I'd recommend makign a tillering gizmo to finsih it up. You can do a search to find it, I'm too lazy to track down a link.

looks liek you might have a slight hing near the tip in the left limb, right limb looks pretty smooth, btu hard to tell with the elipse.

Bottom limb can be left slightly stiffer than the top limb (i.e. 1/8" or so of positive tiller as measured at brace height.

Its a straight profile. I can put the original picture up tonight.  I was using a gizmo, but sometimes it seems to bounce across the grain and give me bad info.  It's the user, I know, but a better trained eye(s) were what seemed missing at this point.  It seems pretty close to right, but just that final bit of work for a "job well done".
Thanks for the help.
