tip shaping after shortening/ piking?

Hi All,

I've got a 68" red oak board bow backed with silk (my 2nd build) that i'm thinking of shortening a bit to increase the draw (it's about 48# now, and i'd like something in the 55# range).  I've heard that you can shorten a bow, and even found something resembling a formula for doing so, but I wonder about the tips after shortening it- will i need to reshape the tips, or will they just be really massive? If the answer is that they don't get reshaped, won't they slow down my arrows something fierce?

Yes the tips need to be reshaped. No need for tips bigger than 3/8 or 1/2".

For a 28" draw, I would not go much shorter than the 68" with red oak.  You will likely increase the set and any gain in cast from more draw weight will be offset by the loss of cast from more set.

What John said.  Use what you learned on this one and build you a 55# bow on purpose
