What is the best way to correct this?
« on: July 25, 2013, 05:22:00 PM »

This is an Osage blank. I have it braced really low just to look and I can see the far limb tip is off of center. I don't believe this is a "twist" just the center line is off.... What should I do to get it closer?

You can put some heat and the handle and move it over pretty easy.

It seems to me that the handle is fine... But the limb tip angles off center towards the tip

to me it looks like the far limb gently curves to the left. if it were me, i would clamp the bow to a stiff, straight board, like a 2x10, a couple clamps on the limb closest to you in the pic, say, near the tip and mid limb, and another on the handle, and position the bow so that the crooked limb sticks out from the board.  then heat from the belly side til its hot enough where you can't lay the back of your hand on it, but not enough to darken the wood. took me about 5 minutes per 6" section. just heat it and the clamp it down and let it cool to room temperature.  i played around with scrap pieces of osage to get the feel for it. osage bends real nice and easy with heat.

I'd keep working it the way it is and do a slight correction later on in the process with a little dry heat and hand pressure. It will shoot like it is as long as the string doesn't track more to the left.

Looks like the lean starts about mid limb. Heat this area and push it sideways the way it needs to go. I corrected the same kind of problem on a BBO I made a couple weeks ago. The glue up came out crooked, heat corrected it.
