Finish question
« on: August 31, 2013, 03:07:00 PM »
I have a Great Plains SR Swift with a gloss finish and was wanting to put a satin/matte clear finish on the bow. How would I go about doing that? Best just send it back to Bill and Linda Foreman? Any advice qould be appreciated, thanks!

scotch brite it good...and spray on a matte clear finish...pretty simple...

if you arent solid on trying it out...do a test section...

most finishes nowadays once dry are compatabile...especially if you just want to "dull up" whats there now...

Try a good rub-down with 0000 steelwool first. That may dull it enough to suit you. If not, follow Monks advice above, just make sure to wipe down with denatured alcohol before spraying.

I finish over my snake skins with tru oil and then use 0000 steel wool to dull the shine down till it's a satin finish. Then I use some Pledge furniture wax or Johnson's paste wax on a rag to bring back the luster and take out the small scratches that the steel wool leaves behind. What you end up with is a sweet satin finish that is pleasing to the eye without the gloss shine.
