Skinny board.. How should I build it.
« on: October 14, 2013, 04:33:00 PM »
Long story short no good boards at Home Depot until I found a really good grained .75x1.5 a lot skinnier than my first bow that I built. I figured I'll go with a bend through handle, but don't really know on demeans ions. Anyone know of a similar build along or a thread with pictures.
Thanks for all the help guys.

Here's one you might be interested in on George T's site.  It's for a 1.5" wide bendy handle bow that looks like oak:

I'd make it bend in the handle.  Maybe 50# max.

I've never made a bend in the handle bow, but I would think you could glue on a thin piece to thicken the handle.  O/w 3/4" should be plenty thick for a 50# bow.  Good luck on your bow!

Just round out the handle with leather.  The point of having a bendy handle is to distribute the stress along the entire length.  For red oak, that length and width, and draw length, it is the safest design to produce a low set, efficient bow.
