Flight Bow
« on: November 20, 2013, 12:40:00 AM »
I have been looking at a Flight Bow
(Yeoman Flight Bow), shoots a 24" arrow.
What is the purpose of a flight bow?
Why would you want  a short draw?
ect.
I would rather fail at something above my means, than to succeed at something  beneath my means

Flight bows are for launching an arrow just as far as possible. Short arrows are lighter arrows - light arrows go further.
I know guys who hold records in flight shooting. It's a whole different game than hunting or target archery. Although, there are classes that use standard hunting gear.

As far as I know a good flight bow won`t survive further shots after the competition- like a formula one engine for example.
It`s kind of a "hot rod" bow- the dragster 1/4 mile of archery...

Moe, for a flight self bow it's definitely going to have only a certain number of shots before it begins to break down. Those bows are on the ragged of survival, they're bult to throw an arrow a long way, not to survive even just that one event. Although, some do stay together for some time and have lots of arrows launched from them.

Mark, it probably depends upon the class the bow is made for. Some would be suitable for hunting and some wouldn't be.

If you'd like more information check out the flight section of PaleoPlanet.

Mark have a look at this.

You are probably looking at the same plans I used to build the bow.

The bow pictured through out the build (in the vintage projects PDF) is not the same bow that is in the text. The actual bow is pictured in the very first picture.

Yes, you can hunt with it. It will draw very smooth out to 28" at least maybe more.

It is quick and quite.

I still have the form and will be making another in a few weeks for a friend -left handed.

I did not follow the plan exactly but pretty much so.

This was several years ago...
