bingham DVD
« on: November 20, 2013, 10:00:00 PM »
Ok gang. I keep lurking around here reading all of your amazing build stories and after the holidays and once im back into my old position I will be back to standard 40 hr weeks and have time again so I am contemplaiting trying a longbow build.

Since I have bough so many bows from James at JD Berry archery he has given me some info on bow building and I would like to try my hand at it.

Would buying a longbow kit from bingham and their DVD help or is it not that good of help?  I would like to SEE it done and im hoping the dvd will be just the ticket to get me started and then I can learn thru trial and error from there.

Brian I started with the bingham kit and it worked fine. A little hind site and I may have went a different direction. IMHO give Kenny m a call he has templates for sale and most of what you will need. Big Jim sells the fire hose and plug ends for the press. If you go with Kenny you will find that no one has any better customer service and he is always willing to give advice for free. Bingham has good stuff too but depending on what type of design you want Kenny may get you closer on the first bow. Kenny built me a 64" R/D bow for the bow swap this year and its a good design and I know he has forms for different lengths and the stack formula to get you close on weight.

I would get the Bingham laminating kit but would not go with their bow kit.  I would copy the taper and stack of the Berry bows you have.  Modify the profile of the press to get any reflex or deflex you desire

I have experience with both Bingham and Kenny and you will be in good hands both ways. I started with the Bingham template and DVD. I watched the DVD and read the instructions over and over before making the first bow.  I have both a form made from the Bingham template and a form built from Kenny's template. Love them both. The Bingham is a mild reflex/deflex if you get the 62" Hybrid and kenny's is a bit more aggressive r/d. Kenny's design offers a smooth draw and some awesome speed.

Kenny - I vote for you putting a dvd together with a video of you building a bow as an instructional help to get a guy started...
