skinezed a couple of bows with pics

I filled some old sight holes from the previous owner with deer antler buttons and a compass on the ocala.  It took about 20 minutes to put on the skinez and the only problem I had was that the pattern ran to the side on the two sets that I had.  Really not a big deal.  I still need to add a few more coats of satin finish poly.  This is really a  great product and having done both I would rather not have to skin a snake and all that just for the looks.  It is kind of pricey per bow, I can only guess that this will change.  Bill

Maybe it's just the pix I see,but it seems to me that some of the diff. snake patterns I've seen over time aren't printed straight?  If they're not printed straight,how can you get them on straight?

Guru, Like I said the two sets I got went off to one side.  I don't know if it is a good copy of a natural pattern but it sure makes for an odd application.  I personally would like a straight pattern (digitally) for the product. But you know I have only skinned a couple of copperheads, I mostly have dealt with the timber rattler around here.  Anyway I will use both of these bows quite bit and will report back as to how they hold up.  It really is a cool product and I think with some poly overspray it will hold up well.  Bill

Bill,   do you put finish over the skin-eez?  I have never used them but have been thinking about it.

Yep, I started with a couple of coats of satin poly, it is soo cold here I will have to wait to add more coats between sandings of course.  I use auto wet sand paper 400 plus grit and 0000 steel wool.  I think it will hold up fine to brush and the likes. Bill

I just applied a set of bullsnake skin-eez on my Shawnee Dakota and I had a heck of a time keeping the pattern going straight.  I started with them straight at the limb tips, but by the time I got to the riser the center of the pattern was running off to one side.  They still look OK and I think they are a great product if you don't want to shell out the cash to put the real thing on.

In my former life as a motor mechanic, we used to decal out our demonstrator cars with vinyl decals. The way we used to get them to sit in the right position was to dip them first in soapy water. This lets you slide them into position, before rubbing over them with a rubber squeegee. Any water leftunder the decal soon dries and you are left with a decal well stuck and in the right place. Maybe you could use this technique on these skin-eez.

The only pattern that truly runs off to one side is the Diamond Back and that will be fixed soon. As far as the copperhead that dark line should run straight down the limb. UK you are right. The soapy water will help align the decal and you will be able to move it around to keep it striaght on the limb. You will have to wait 10-15 min before trimming. What I normaly do is line it by eye first and get it as straight as I can before hitting it with the squeegee. As far as putting polly over them you dont have to it is more of a personal prefferance. This material will last up to 6yrs outdoors before breaking down.
