Hill style questions..again

First I gotta thank you fellas for the help you gave on my first Hill style bow. I`m planning on building another with a change or two.
  I built the first with Action -boo and I`m thinking about building one from either maple or elm. I also will try to get it to come out with maybe 1/2" of backset. My first was string follow and shoots good but it is not a speedy one for sure. I have owned near a dozen Hill bows so I do have a feel of how swift one should shoot.I know speed don`t kill but an arrow of the same weight going faster will penetrate best.
  Here is my questions...Do you guys see a difference in cast from  maple,red elm or boo?
Also does anyone have any idea how much string follow takes away from performance compare to a backset of the same pounds. Thanks,RC.

I don't think you'll a difference in those three core materials.  I think aboo might have the edge if it really came down to it.  But I haven't shot enough bows of the same design and weight using the different core woods to make anything more than a guess based on what I've read and heard from others.

I'd love to see the backset/string follow comparison though if anyone has any info.

Think you'll have it done by the hog hunt?

hill worked a backset in his design--might mean something!

and with my design --I've built in all 3 woods you mentioned--edge grain red elm wins hands down-with edge grain maple next

Hey RC, I might make a suggestion. If you already have a stringfollow form made you might consider using the same form but cut your nocks in so that the bow becomes a forward handle hill with backset instaed of stringfollow. I just did that on my stringfollow form and it turned out really nice. I also used eastern red cedar for lams. I see a difference in speed by going to backset and I think the forward riser makes it a more stable bow to shoot. I'm in the process of finishing it now and will post some pics once done.
