Belt sanders
« on: February 08, 2014, 07:18:00 AM »
I'm thinking about upgrading from my Rigid combo belt/spindle sander.  It seems like it often goes out of square which obviously causes some challenges.

As much as I'd love to get a grizzly edge sander, that's just not in the budget.  I've been looking at the Grizzly combo belt/disc sander wondering it that will do as well.  Any comments/feedback?

Thanks...Eric

I bought a Grizzly edge sander of craigslist for 300.00 After using it for over a year I could of used my 6X48 combo. I use the rubber spindle on the end a lot. The edge sander sure helps. Before I got the grizzly I converted a 4X36 to a edge sander and used it a lot.

Yep - a 36" belt (even a benchtop) does great.  I'd still love an edge sander, but the price is definitely a factor....

Watch Craigslist.  If you are patient, you may be able to find an edge sander for the price of the combo machine.

Last year a guy put an add on C-list along with a pic for a grizzly GO512 wrap around edge Sander.. I drove 100 miles with cash to look at it..well it was not a 512 it was a 1140 Grizzly sander. At first I was not too happy, he said his nephew did the add for him and goofed up using a stock grizzly picture ..he dropped price to half of asking price and I now have it in my shop. I see them come up for sale every now and then.

When searching on Craigslist make sure you search  both edge sander and belt sander.. a quick search for edge sander a few minutes ago shows a 6x108 grizzly G9982 oscillating edge sander near me. It did not show up when I searched belt sander but edge sander worked. I have the little Rigid belt sander and am working on setting up my 6x80 grizzly with a pattern sander on the motor side.
