Wood combos
« on: February 14, 2014, 08:19:00 PM »
Hey Gang,  pretty much just a lurker here...don't have a ton of info or tricks of the trade to offer, so I pretty much just read what you all post.

I'll be building a couple of risers in the morning and was looking for some suggestions (and hopefully pics...we all love pictures) on some wood combos that might look nice for when I order laminations next week.

1st riser will be zebra with a padauk accent strip.

2nd riser will be walnut with a wenge strip.

Any suggestions for the limbs?  I like using clear glass to show grain.

Thanks for any ideas!

So this will be me and my pops 5th and 6th bows.  Me and my dad started building bows back in November.  We started with the Bingham kits for longbows, and have had good success...every bow has been a great shooter, but we've also learned a few lessons the hard way.

We just pulled our first reflex/deflex bow from the hotbox last weekend.   It's a bingham kit...bubinga/maple riser kit, maple limbs.  Pretty bow for sure, but kind of run of the mill.

Looking for something a bit different out of the next couple of bows.

I'll try and post some pics tomorrow, but none of our bows have been anything out of the ordinary.

If it were me I would put the wenge with the zebra and padauk with the walnut   Wenge and walnut are too close in color.

Thanks Beach, the walnut is very grey...the padauk and wenge both look nice against it.  I'm not committed any way, the padauk is highly orange, looks nice against both the zebra and walnut.

What do you think for limbs?  Still pretty new to this.

Something red looks good with the dark walnut and wenge.  Maybe coco, moradillo, or mahogany? It's hard to go too wrong haha.
