bowyering anniversary
« on: February 23, 2014, 11:08:00 PM »
i just happened to notice that i registered on tradgang in February last year.  so its been a year.  I signed up just for the bowyer's bench, cause i wasn't getting all that much help over on the LW.  My intro to TG was Roy taking me step by step over 24 pages of bamboo backed ipe building along.  that was my first bow and it was sweet.  it failed on me eventually, and i think based on what ive learned from you since then, that the flat bellied ipe just overpowered the boo. anyway i took my 8th bow out today and its great, im shooting in my swap bow and its pretty sweet too.  i got 3 or 4 at or ready to be floor tillered, and a couple dozen sets of plans in my head that change everyday.  im a dangerous driver, cause ya see i have to drive by all these trees all the time... so full of potential its hard not to look at them.  I can be found doing inexplicable things, like heatgunning a piece of wood in my underwear at 2 AM, and cruising the isles at the goodwill looking for purses and boots that could live again as a handle wrap or string keeper.  I save my lunch money to buy woodworking tools and raw materials, i get tired of bologna sandwiches sometimes, but dammit if i had that tool i could do this better, and if im gonna buy tonkin cane, i might as well get 500 of em, cause it will be cheaper in the long run (my wife and the mail lady think I'm crazy)  I know that there is an oak board bow in the hand rail to my basement, it has really straight grain.  there's screws in the middle but i already know how ill splice it after i cut them out.  there's also a couple dozen arrow shafts in various doors and frames in my house (do they use such straight grain for that intentionally?)  my house shoes are impregnated with yellow dust, and i get yelled at for yellow footprints.  did i mention that i analyze EVERY tree i pass? people think I'm crazy when i stop listening to them and start looking up and down a tree.... that actually happens a lot.  this may actually be a mental illness.

im not real sure where i was going with this rant, but i think i just wanted to say thank you all for giving me this problem.    :notworthy:    :campfire:    :archer:
