How long to wait after heat bending?

Hi Guys,

I just dry heat bent my belly osage lam for a tri.
Initially I wasn't going to but I changed my mind and decided to use a non tapered piece for the belly.
It's .25" thick.

How long do you have to wait for rehydration before glue up?

My workshop is about 20-30% humidity.

...on a side note..is there a recommended humidity to try to keep a wood shop?

personally i am wiping the heated surface with cold watered piece of fabric until it cool enough takes 10 minutes...

normally, you need need to let it cool by itself at least 1-2 hours...

I guess you'd have to wait for it to dry..kinda the opposite of me..lol

I didn't wait long...for better or worse...
I waited about 7mins then blew it off with compressed air till room temp.

Took about 15mins total for each side ( including heating, clamping etc.)

I didn't bend em much.
I was trying to come close to how the tips "should" bend if they were tapered and sitting in the jig which has raised tips.

When I was testing with the flat lam, the lam just bent fairly abruptly at the start and stayed pretty flat through the incline.

I ended up flipping them up 1 1/8" over an 8" span.
Now when I place the lam in the jig it has a pretty nice gentle curve.
And the core likes to lay up easier with it.

John, You can glue the belly lam as soon as it cools a little. What you don't want to do is stress the lam until it has rehydrated and if you use a water based glue like TB glue will add moisture.
  A 1/4" lam shouldn't take long to dry out or rehydrate anyway.

Like Pat said, I have glued a bow up as soon as the wood cooled off. But it's normally 48 hours till I cut it out and even longer till I start tillering. One day for the first glue up to dry, then another day for the riser glue up to dry.
