Wrapping The Fletching On Arrows?

Hi,

Today I finally got around to fletching parabolic feathers on some carbons arrows. I am wondering if it is necessary to wrap the ends of the fletchings with some string or synthetic sinew? Do I need to worry about the fletchings coming off if I don't tie them down with something? Yes the shafts were cleaned of oil and dirt with denatured alcohol. Thank You I appreciate it.

Hi greenfish; you'll probably get more answers if you move your topic to the PowWow.  If you used good glue and got them laying flat against the shaft, you should be good to go.  I take a very small drop of Fletchtite and put it on the end of the feather that faces toward the tip of the arrow.

If you shoot off the hand as I do, rather than off a rest, you'll want the tips of the fletching wrapped - helps keep bits of quill out of the back of your hand...  Otherwise, modern fletching glues are certainly strong enough to take the stress.

One thing I do to the leading edge of the fletch is to burnish or roll a round screw driver shank on the that edge to make it more flush. Then add a drop of glue.

Even with shooting off the fist it makes a smooth transition.

I would only wrap a primitive style arrow.

They most likely do not need to be wrapped, but like has been mentioned above, put a drop of glue on the very front end of each feather. If you feel better wrapping them, I would trim off the splines about 1/4" down from the front end of the quill, then wrap them and even still spread some glue over the wrapping.

I wrap mine, but I have skin that's easily torn.  Makes it so much easier to shoot.  A short wrapping with thread or serving material makes all the difference in the world to me.

Thank You! I wasn't sure where to post my question everything in the powow section appears to be guys talking about their successful hunts. Just thought a question about arrow wrappings would be out of place there... I supposed for now. I'll be shooting off the shelf so everything sounds good from what I can tell. I also did the dab of extra glue at the front and back of the fletched feathers for each arrows. The arrows look so much cooler now than they did with the plastic vanes, can't wait to see them in flight. Have a great weekend!

I wrap mine. I have not been usin an arrow rest lately but I always wrapped anyway rest or no rest. Jawge
