Flipping tips on bamboo backed trilam
« on: April 04, 2014, 08:50:00 PM »
Whats the  best way to flip the tips? Im thinkin dry heat on core and belly lams and let the bamboo conform to them during glue up.  Its gonna be r/d profile, but i wanna add a little extra flip cause i like the feel with reduced string angle at full draw... Less stacking.

FWIW I don't do any heat bending before glue up and I can easily turn a tri-lam into a recurve.

I think the reason is that I'm using a solid form that I clamp the lams down onto as opposed to the centerpost, midlimb post, and tip post setup ... Just a thought.

I do like the 5 post setup though and I actually have a setup like that that mounts to the flat side of my form too if I wanna free-ball it a bit more.

Dean Torges' DVD, "Stalking the Bamboo Backed Bow" show how he does it with the 5 post form he uses.

Yes Ben a caul would be the same as me flipping the tips prior to glue up. Dean's form for a recurve is 5 posts, but more like a caul on the limb tips.
