Beauty and the BEASTS...
« on: March 03, 2008, 07:30:00 AM »
My buddy Jake came down yesterday for a bit of shooting, alot of eating and a long snowshoe into one of my remote hunting spots to rescue 2 gorilla's that were left up after bow season ended Dec. 31st.

It was a good day, Jake's binding broke  :help:   about 1/3 of the way in, so we Rube Goldberg'ed him a temp. job and away we went.  ;)

I went in a different way than normal and used my new Garmin to find the stand.
Soon it was beeping and I looked up at the stand; GPS units, call me a believer!  :)

We got the stands, and sweated our way back out.

Arwen joined us for a shoot on my range and she was shooting great with the bow and stuff you folks sent her.  :clapper:
Here we are, Beauty and the BEASTS...LOL

Mornin Cary, been thinkin bout GPS myself not that I'm worried about gettin lost but sometimes in the dark in the swamp it's pretty easy to miss a stand.

Besides extra batteries I like to carry more than 1 compass.....seems it's easy to loose one LOL

Tom,

You'll never regret a GPS. Compasses and a map are nice, but still not as accurate as a GPS.

I was 10 yards from the stand in thick cedars, coming in a way that I had never gone before; and it was beeping like mad.  :)

I got it for moose hunting, up there, if you get lost, you are done and dead.  :(

It is handy for waypointing your stands, and if you get a deer down, after you find and dress it; just punch in your stand and it will take you right back to where you started, no fuss, no muss. :)

I'm betting you'll be up here again. Check the Trad events Tom for the Ontario Longbow Rendezvous that I am hosting the 3rd weekend in April.

Sounds like a great time and a great way to beat cabin fever, which I got bad.
I've got a gps in the car, really can't beat it.
