Wood Siyah on Glass?
« on: May 22, 2014, 02:26:00 PM »
Anyone successfully epoxied a wooden siyah directly onto a glass-wood-glass lam sandwich?  I assume I'd have to rough up the surface of the glass where it's under the wood of the siyah, for good glue grab.

I've done it with wood-wood composites, using Titebond, but not wood-glass bows with epoxy.  The result would be something like this:

i would think it would work for sure- especially if you bind it too!

Why dont you first glue up the core to the siyah and let the glass overlap the siyah`s fade?
Shall give the best connection with the most lightweight shiya!

Fujimo -- that's what I'm hoping.  And yes, it would be bound with silk embroidery thread, superglued during the binding process.

Moe -- I thought about that, but during construction the limb and back glass would be 1.5" wide and the siyah only .75" at the fade and thinner at the turn of the curve.  I worry about getting a decent clamp/glue joint if the glass is that much wider than the siyah.

The alternative, I suppose, would be to make the siyah 1.5" all the way, then after glue-up spend a bunch of time grinding half of the siyah away.

If you laminated the siyah between the glass you could cut the thickness of the siyah way down reducing the weight and improving performance IMHO
