high brace
« on: May 27, 2014, 12:22:00 PM »
ok i just finished a R/D bow from KENNY'S form. great bows that really preform. I bought a new string and it braces the bow about 8 1/4" which is like an inc h over what Kenny recommends. Can this damage the bow in any way?
Thanks
Stacy

Too high of a brace will be the same as overdrawing the bow upon full draw. Depending on design, most standard brace heights I've seen have been anywhere from 7"-7.75". It looks like your string has a pretty good twist to it. You may be able to untwist it enough to get it back within range.

Beautiful riser btw!!

Beautiful bow! If you are making the bows you should start making your own strings, it not too hard and you can learn on YouTube .

Lol. Trust me. If you've built 1 successful bow then you'll find the success rate much higher on the strings!!

Heres a tip to get the 3" under string length on em.

61" for a 64" ntn.

I lay out the nocks on the bow back, 32" each way from center for a 64".

Then make a 45* mark on limb edge, and file on the side of line toward center, leaving the mark.

When finishing grooves, I round the belly side of the nock so the string curves into nock, not a sharp corner. Much nicer to your string.

If you use this formula, a 61" string (actual) will fit the 64" bow with a bout a 6.75" brace.

Sweet looking bow Stacy!!
Stay sharp, Kenny.
