Takedown design
« on: June 09, 2014, 12:20:00 AM »
Hey guys-
Well with my trade bow almost completed I'm really determined to step up my bow building game. I really want to try my hand at a takedown bow. Kenny sent me plans a long long time ago and I'm gonna give it a go. My question is how do you try and design a riser. He sent me a template for the limb pad angle but I really want a beautiful flow. I've checked out stalker sti knows, idahoCuts bows, and others who have a great flow to them. That's what I'm looking for. I want to go from a beginner builder to a more advanced builder. I'm just stumped on where to star on the riser design and layout... Anyone have any ideas?????

Thanks,
Justin

Start with some 11x17 graph paper, draw a box about 3" tall and 16" wide (or the length you want) . Then take a compass and draw in the limb angles, and the center line. From there you can freehand some designs until you see something you like. That is basically what I did. Have fun!

What beachbowhunter said.  Get that paper and some pix of risers you like, and try to re-draw the elements you like onto the paper.  Start with the arrow shelf side.  You'll want to make at least 3 drawings -- left and right side, plus belly and/or back view.

get yourself an 8ft 2x4 and cut into pieces the right length. After building the riser you like from scrap wood it is easy to transfer the riser to the wood you intend to build your riser from.
