If you like skinny strings as few as 6 or 8 will cover the whole range.
For the bows over 50 I like 12 strands because with my serving it is about right for my nocks.

For my kids and youth bows I still do 10 or 12 same reasons.

I use 6-10 strands on all my self bows up to 60# or so. But the truth is 4 strands would work up to 60#. I like a bigger string that's just right double served with .021".
