Weight Tubes?
« on: February 07, 2007, 08:47:00 PM »
I hear alot about weight tubes.  not sure if i need them or not.

I shoot 3555 Gold Tip Hunter XT's cut 29".  my bow is 50#@28 ( actually checked it to be true ) and i tend to get a little sideways flight but then they straighten right out.  would weight tubes be of any help and if so what do i do next with them?

im lost

From what I have heard, weight tubes will not affect spine.  If you get any sideways flight you need to change your point weight, especially if you see it in fletched shafts.  Whether you need more or less depends on whether the sideways is right or left.

Weight tubes won't affect the spine of your arrows.  The merely add weight.

Actually, that's not quite true.  Since they increase the inertia of your arrow, they will lower dynamic spine.  It's such a small amount that it can usually be ignored, though.

Sounds like you are overspined, try using heavier heads and see if that cures your problems.  With the variety of insert, adapter and point weights avialable it is fairly easy to put together a combination that works.  It just takes a liitle time to experiment.

I thought LH shooter, kicking right was under-spined and kicking left was stiff......

Kick toward the bow (regardless of left or right hand) is overspine, away from the bow is underspine.

Easier for me to remember than swapping for southpaws.

Brian,

If you can shorten up the length on the GT a little or go with a lighter point. Have you shot any bare shafts to check for sure the flight?

If you change something you should see some change in the flight. one way or another.

If you are a left handed shooter and your arrows are kicking nock right you are underspined and have to either shorten your arrow or lighten your point or go to a heavier spined arrow.Weight tubes are not the hot set up as they tend to nock out nocks and point inserts. I have even epoxied them in full length and they still move with enough use.I can get 11 to 1 arrows just by using the right spine and lots of point weight.
