Browning Cobra
« on: March 03, 2008, 07:19:00 PM »
Well I just bought a Browning Cobra.  I hope it's in better shape than the Nomad I just got!  I think the Cobra is a real pretty bow.  It's a shorty for sure.  I'm wanting it to use in my pop-up blind and on the ground for turkey hunting.
50" bow and a 30" draw should be real interesting.  :saywhat:   :bigsmyl:

Is that a Cobra 1?
What kind of rest is on it?

There is a Cobra 1 in my little circle. Ed sold it to Duffy, and it lived in my house while I made arrows for it, then Duffy sold it to Jimmy the Geek, who I doubt will ever part with it, not that he shoots it much. It has a Saunders Whisper Rest, I think. They are one of the prettiest little (50") production bows ever made, to my eyes. Lemme know if it pinches your wittle fingas.

Kathy,
Why yes it is a Cobra I.  I don't know what kind of rest it has on it, but I'll most likely put a rug rest on it.

Sorry to say if it does pinch my fingers, it probably won't pinch my 19 yr old daughter's.  It will be a great bow for her to use.  She has a 60" Pearson Varsity right now.

It arrived.  It is in excellent shape and I can't wait to shoot it.  It came with a bag, string and glove.  All in great shape too.

I just picked up a Cobra II at an army surplus store for $40 dollars. The bow is 58" and draws #44 at 28. It's a sharp little bow.

I have had a 50" Cobra for about 10 years. 42# @ 28". I had it up for sale a few times but it shows it's age and went unsold. I shot it recently and am glad I still have it. It's a good shooting little bow. I think I'll keep it. Jim.

I have a Cobra II, 58", 42 lbs. First bow that I purchased.  Haven't shot it in years.  Can you guys help me with the brace height?  It's been so long, I've forgot.  Must be that old age thing.  Thanks.

Well I finally got to shoot today.  WOW, what a GREAT little bow.  It's 48# @ 30" and flings an arrow really quick too.  It came with a flipper rest but I put a rug on it. It should be a good turkey bow.  At $140.00 I probably paid what it cost new, but I'm satisfied.

I have a Cobra 2, 53@28. Great bows. My best Trad memory was with that bow. I was shooting for the Bowhunting Certification here in Jersey in 2006. I had just made the decision to go all Trad and wasn't over confident about my shooting yet. ( Still Not!) We had to score three out of five in the vitals at about 18 yards. I was the only Trad shooter and I could hear the whispers behind me when I walked-up to the line. Watching several of the compound guys miss the 3D target completely helped my confidence, a little. I remember drawing back on the first arrow, then going up to pull my arrows. The whispers were louder and more of a buzzing then. I had shot a four inch group, all in and around the heart! That was way above my skill level at that time for sure. I tried to act like it was just normal shooting for me. Luckily I don't have any friends, so I didn't have to talk at all. The Great Spirit was with me that day, no doubt! None of the modern shooters got close to that kind of shooting. The old timer that worked for the club and checked us out was really tickled about it. He told me he hadn't seen a bow like that in way too long, and it was a joy to see it shot so well. I just smiled and said thanks. I didn't have the heart to tell him I didn't have a clue! LOL!! That bow will stay with me for that reason, even though I shoot Longbows now. Bowtie, I'm not exactly sure, but I believe an 8 1/2" brace height worked for me on the bow. I shoot three under. I may string it-up and check it out tomorrow.
