Advantage to core/glass vs glass only riding up riser fade
« on: September 07, 2014, 06:18:00 PM »
Howdy Folks!
Longtime since I have posted on the board but occasionally stopping in for updates. I'm finally going to build another bow....this one for me. I have all the materials and was pondering a question I wanted to settle before glue up.

What is, if any - advantage to having a core lam and glass versus glass only lam riding up the riser fade? I have built them both ways and couldn't really tell a difference to be honest. By they way I build Hill style bows. Is there some sort of performance advantage or purely aesthetic?

Pretty sure it's only aesthetic.

Yep.

Now the one bow I made with only the glass running up the fades came out a little bit lighter than one with a belly lam running up the fades with the same stack thickness.  I'm not sure if it was because I used all actionboo lams whereas other bows with the belly lam used a combination of wood and actionboo OR by positioning the butt ends of one of my tapered lams closer to the center of the bow giving slightly less thickness farther out the limbs.    :dunno:
