Asiatic horsebow plans?
« on: September 19, 2014, 05:38:00 PM »
Anyone have plans for a fiberglass horsebow like Saluki makes?  Or know where I could get them?

There are dozens of "horsebow" styles, and Saluki makes a handful.  WHICH are you interested in -- Magyar, Hun, Tartar, Mongol, Scythian, Ming Chinese, Bulgar, Avar, Cumen, Turkish, Ottoman???

Some of the Saluki fiberglass bows are molded, not made from laminations.

You might be interested in the Scythian style wood-glass composite I built earlier this year:

Interested in Mongol or Magyar, thanks for the link to your thread.  I just want to try a static recurve.  I built a sinew backed, horn bellied holmegard and now I am getting interested in having a 31 to 32 inch draw.

Here are some posts for ideas.  A Magyar style would be the easiest transition, IMHO, as it's more or less a flatbow bent in reflex either side of the handle with bent tips (siyahs) glued on.

These bows were made as wood-horn composites.  But the same principles apply to making one from wood-glass; except the glass layers would be much thinner than the horn.

Mark that is a very nice looking bow and Yeah I would be talking about something like that if it will go out to a longer draw length.

I got a 38" draw out of that, thanks.

I'll be glad to answer your questions about it.  It's a fine bow.
