20 Ton Epoxy Finish?
« on: March 04, 2008, 06:47:00 AM »
I have read about this finish elsewhere but no definitive particulars. I understand you mix 1 part "20 ton" epoxy to about 6 parts acetone. I am thinking of applying it to a riser i've just finished to make it bullet proof.  I have 3 coats of boiled linseed on it now. Has anyone else tried this? Is it excessively shiny, dull...? Does it run? How long to "set up"? Does it harden well and adhere well? Any shared experience would be most appreciated! Thanks, Dave T

Two ton epoxy mixed with 4 or 5 parts acetone. The mix isn't crucial. Very shiny, apply with a small piece of cloth. Gets tacky almost instantly so one quick swipe is about all you get. Takes from a couple hours to 8 hours to cure between coats depending on temperature.
Hardens well and sticks to about anything.

If you have another finish already on the bow the acetone may make the underlying finish dissolve and be gummy.
