bear kodiak?

i have a 80's kodiak that is 70lb @ 28 it has some marks here and there. My question is can the bow be refinished and dropped to say 60lbs. Its not my main hunting bow and would like to have a more manageable
weight for friends or any one that would like to try a bow at say 60lbs. just wondering if there is anyway to drop the weight down.

My experience modifying old recurves is a bit thin, but that never stopped me from spouting off before:

I'd think you could drop it by thinning the profile and sanding the belly glass some. But 10# is a lot to drop from a finished bow. Seems like you would start to kill the character of the bow if you thin either the profile or the belly glass too much. You'll have to be careful to maintain string alignment and tiller along the way.

I would aim for 5# or try to trade for one that's the right weight. (Or maybe tell people to shorten their draw up a few inches...) Good luck.

In the spirit and experience level of Dave's post, I'll spout off too.

Never tried sanding the belly glass, but I refinished and retilered an old bow to remove limb twist. Dropped from 50# to 44# or so. I had to narrow quite a bit to get the twist out. Started around 1.75 wide and ended maybe 1.6" wide. Starting to get to the point the it looks like a different bow.

But hey man, what the hell, give it a shot.
